Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Against Nursing Home by Victim’s Estate

An independent administrator for an elderly nursing home neglect victim’s estate has filed a wrongful death lawsuit at the Cook County Circuit Court.

Sandra Miggins is representing the estate of Elsie Willis who died while she was a resident at the Prairie Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in the city of Chicago Heights. The suit claims that while Willis was a resident, she was left to suffer with severe pressure ulcers and that she suffered multiple falls when left unattended. Miggins goes on to maintain that the injuries that Willis sustained went on to affect her mental and physical health so badly, that it resulted in her death. Now the nursing home has been named as the defendant in the case with the suit citing the state’s Nursing Home Care, Survival and wrongful death statutes.

Miggins and the Willis estate are seeking $50,000 in damages.
